Melani is a local macOS app. It reads your calendar and files on your Mac, forms the residual on your Mac, and keeps no account of any of it on our side. This page is the plain-language version. It is the whole story, not a summary of a longer one.

01 The one-paragraph version
The app runs on your machine. Your Anthropic API key, your calendar, your notes and files never touch our servers. The only thing we ever receive is what Stripe needs to sell you a license and what it takes to email that license to you. We do not build a profile of you, we do not run analytics on your behaviour, and we do not sell anything to anyone.
02 What stays on your Mac
- Your calendar events and whatever you point Melani at to reconstruct the day.
- Your Anthropic API key, held in the macOS Keychain. Requests to the model go straight from your Mac to Anthropic.
- Every residual, verdict and note Melani writes. They live in a local database in your user folder and are never uploaded.
We could not read your work data if we wanted to. There is no code path that sends it off the machine.
03 What we receive, and why
Two moments, both about billing, both handled by processors who specialise in it.
- Checkout — handled by Stripe. They process your card and send us your email, your subscription status, and a customer id. We never see your card number.
- License delivery — once payment clears, our license service mints a signed key and hands your email to Resend to send it. The email contains your key and the download link.
That is the complete list of personal data we hold: your email and your subscription state. We keep it for as long as your license is active and for the period tax and accounting rules require after that.
04 Anthropic
When Melani reads the residual it calls Anthropic's API with your key, from your Mac. That request is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy, not ours. We are never in the loop. You can rotate or revoke the key at console.anthropic.com at any time and Melani stops immediately.
05 No tracking
The Melani app ships with no analytics SDK, no telemetry, and no crash reporter that phones home. This website sets no advertising or tracking cookies. If we ever add privacy-respecting, aggregate page counts we will name the tool here first.
06 Your rights
Because the only data we hold is your email and billing state, exercising your rights is simple. Email hello@kahlus.com and we will show you what we have, correct it, or delete it. Deleting your billing record ends the subscription. Everything the app produced was always only on your Mac, so it is yours to keep or remove.
07 Changes
If this policy changes we update the date at the top and, for anything material, email active license holders. Continuing to use Melani after a change means you accept it.
